Biography

Hi, my name is David McDougal and I am a Senior Software Engineer/UX Designer who is driven by creating awesome, beautiful, and customer focused software solutions. With over 4 years of experience building full-stack, e-commerce web applications I am driven to finding new ways to solve user problems and bring those solutions to life.

Software Engineering and UX Design is more than just finding the quickest solution or creating a new piece of code. It's about creating and leading a user on a journey to their final destination. The better the code and the design, the better the user's journey.

No matter what software product I am working on, I am always deeply committed to the task at hand to make sure it centers around the end user. My commitment and attention to detail are central to the work I do. I look forward to using my skills to help you create the ultimate user experience.

  • Senior Software Engineer @Rebuy Engine

    2025-Present | Lehi, UT

    I led a 4-month migration of the Rebuy Partner Portal from a legacy Angular and PHP stack to a modern Next.js 16 and Node architecture, serving 300+ partners. I owned the architectural direction and hands-on implementation, treating data correctness, security, and accessibility as first-class requirements. By moving to a Next.js/Node stack with a TanStack Query and Postgres data layer, I cut page load times by roughly 2 seconds while reducing redundant fetching. I served as the go-to engineer across the entire product surface — from design and UX-flow decisions to shipping TypeScript end to end — while bridging legacy PHP and the new stack with zero disruption to partners.

    2021-2025 | Lehi, UT

    On Byte's Growth Team I transformed user-generated quiz data into personalized results pages, boosting conversion rates by 17% and driving $6 million in additional revenue. I optimized Contentful GraphQL queries to cut per-page data size by 14%, and engineered full-stack components that extracted and uploaded review data into Microsoft Azure, reducing endpoint requests to Review Trackers by 99%. I led the creation of hundreds of new UI components and page redesigns using Next.js, React, Typescript, and SCSS with Contentful as the CMS, following modern responsive web design patterns.
